Yeah, I get it, it’s very trendy these days. It sounds cool, it may seem like you would not have to work so hard, because you are on the Facebook every day, you put on Instagram every shot of your vanilla iced latte with almond milk from Starbucks or if you are not a coffee lover you put a story every time you step into the gym. You tweet after every dunk you saw on TV or every game changer that happened with your favorite show on Netflix.

You know it for sure, you know every new feature of Instagram. You spend 90 % of time on your smartphone on these platforms. You tried every AI feature of Snapchat because it’s cool these days.

I get it.

I understand it.

It seems like a pretty easy job hah. Often times these are also a high paid jobs.

But let me remind you, Google was once trendy too, but you think that everybody knew how to set up an ad in AdWords or how to do SEO properly or how to communicate with clients that wanted you to do their SEM?

It seems pretty cool, it’s flashy but let me tell you one thing I worked in the social media agency and I did all of the tasks that you must do in order to do your job on a high level and in favor of your clients. Guys, it doesn’t matter if you know everything about Facebook conversion optimization or how to set up the proper funnel to get 3.48 % CTR and $0.1 CPC with $5 CPM and 12 ROAS.

Or it doesn’t matter if you know what people like, what words are great to use in the ad copy or what images are trendy and will bring the most engagement. It just doesn’t matter.

At the end of the day, you are a part of a service that somebody ordered to take care of their social media presence. And it means that you must do what they want you to do. Yeah, you can suggest some idea or plan but if this thing isn’t in the favor of your contact person in the company because he or she must report growing and green results to his or her boss, you are not gonna use anything from your super duper idea. That’s just how it is, that’s the truth.

On the other hand, if you think that you will be in the Facebook Ads Manager all day or scrolling Instagram feed to find what your competitors are doing, you are wrong. Most of the time you’ll probably spend in the mailbox, excel sheets, powerpoints, on meetings where you will be explaining why the results did not meet the KPIs we set up before the campaign launch and you will be speaking about seasonality, that your targeting was great, copies were great too because you like them and the images are just wonderful but people just did not click on that.

Yeah and then you will be in the ads manager setting up ads or going through all these numbers and you will be optimizing your ad sets because results won’t be great as you expected.

It’s the same job as any other job.

Do you still want to work in the social media?

I did not write this because I want you to go work for Bank of America or to go make cheeseburgers in McDonald’s… this is just what will be waiting for you. And if this is still good for you, ask yourself if you like accounting and billing? These are also tasks that you will touch on during your social media career.

But what if there will be a way of doing the good parts and still make money in the Social Media niche?

Yeah, I spent hours and days until I figured out that I can do this on my own and I don’t need to have clients and 5 employees and all that “baggage” with me.
